This studio shot is a composite of multiple exposures using a flashlight to backlight the sand dollar test in several different locations.
The test was placed on a piece of transparent plastic to keep it distanced from the red towel used for the background, and to allow the placement of the flashlight between the test and the background.
Several exposures were used to capture a greater dynamic range than a single exposure was capable of, allowing detail to be preserved in both the highlights and shadows.
